Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) at Wyoming Behavioral Institute

What is TMS?

TMS is an FDA-approved therapy for adults with major depression who have not adequately benefited from antidepressant medication. The procedure uses highly focused magnetic pulses to stimulate nerve cells in the brain known to affect mood regulation. It is noninvasive and free of the side effects that patients can experience when they take antidepressants.

Who Can Benefit From TMS Treatment?

TMS can help individuals experiencing treatment-resistant depression. Patients must have a primary diagnosis of major depressive disorder and have documented prior treatment with medication and therapy

Is Therapy or Medication Administered With TMS?

Patients can continue with therapy and maintain their medication during TMS treatment as recommended by their mental health treatment providers.

What Is The Program Schedule?

TMS is an outpatient procedure. Patients receive therapy several times a week for four to six weeks. During treatment, patients are awake and alert and there is no recovery time. Patients can go back to their normal activities immediately after each treatment. Patients undergo TMS treatment five days per week with each session lasting approximately 20 minutes. Patients can expect to complete four to six weeks of treatment, for a total of 20-30 sessions.

What Insurances Are Currently Accepted?

We accept Medicare, Managed Medicare, most commercial insurance and TRICARE®
