Wyoming Behavioral Institute is an 85-bed acute care psychiatric hospital in Casper, Wyoming, specializing in the treatment of children, adolescents and adults. Residential treatment for adolescents is also available. Mental and behavioral health problems treated at Wyoming Behavioral Institute include:

  • Anxiety
  • Depression
  • Substance use and abuse
  • Suicidal thoughts and actions
  • Threats and plans to harm others
  • Self-harming behaviors
  • Other behavioral problems

Other mental health problems treated at WBI include:

  • Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)
  • Attention deficit disorder (ADD)
  • Oppositional defiance disorder (ODD)
  • Bipolar disorder
  • Schizophrenia

Wyoming Behavioral Institute's therapists and nurses can be counted on to respond compassionately and effectively when individuals experiencing a mental health crisis call on the telephone or come to our hospital for help.

Free, confidential assessments are available 24/7 for individuals of any age experiencing suicidal thoughts, anxiety, depression, substance abuse detox, and other signs and symptoms of mental health problems.

Sometimes a mental health assessment results in a recommendation for inpatient care. Wyoming Behavioral Institute's psychiatrists admit and treat:

  • Children ages 4 and older
  • Adolescents 13 to 17 years old
  • Adults of any age

Lengths of stay are generally shorter than two weeks. Residential treatment is also offered on our Pathways Residential Unit for adolescents ages 13 to 17 who need more than two weeks of inpatient care.

Outpatient care is often recommended when a person's mental health becomes worrisome. Therapy and medication management are provided by WBI's Outpatient Clinic. Psychiatrists, nurse practitioners and physician assistants provide:

  • Mental health evaluations
  • Diagnosis
  • Treatment

Appointments are available for children, adolescents and adults. Physician referrals are not required.

Adult Patients: Saturdays and Sundays from 2-4 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. Visits are limited to 15 minutes to assure all patients who want to have visitors have the opportunity to schedule time with them.

Adolescent Acute Patients: Daily at lunch and dinner and after dinner
All visitors must be on patient's approved visitors list.

Adolescent Pathways Patients: Daily at lunch and dinner and after dinner
All visitors must be on patient's approved visitors list.

Child Patients: Daily at lunch and dinner and after dinner
All visitors must be on patient's approved visitors list.
